India on Wednesday issued a Tsunami warning for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, located in the Indian Ocean, after a massive earthquake off the coast of Sumatra.
An earthquake of 8.9 on Richter scale has struck Indonesia.
An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale was recorded in the Arabia Sea, 155 km away from Mumbai, the Met office here said.
Tremors were also felt in Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Patna, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Cuttack, Bhubaneshwar and several other cities on the eastern coast of India. India has also issued tsunami warning for coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands following the earthquake.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Service issued a red high-level warning for the islands, and also put out lower alerts for the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu states in the southeast of the country.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said an Indian Ocean wide tsunami alert was in effect, after a quake that the US Geological Survey said was 308 miles southwest of the province’s capital Banda Aceh.The quake was felt as far away as Singapore, Thailand and India.The province was devastated by a 2004 tsunami that left 170,000 dead or missing, and that in total killed about 230,000 people in 13 Indian Ocean nations.

A low intensity earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter Scale hit the coastal regions of Andhra pradesh (Kakinada, Vishakhapatnam) today.
As there was no power cut, the officials are considered it as a low intensity Earth Quake.
In Vizag Seethammadhara, Murali nagar are the places hit by Minor Earth Quake.
Poranki, Patamata lanka, Krishnalanka in Vijaywada are the places hit by the Minor Earth Quake.
Even some areas of Tirupathi, Vijaywada, Nellore are also reported to be hit by a low intensity Earth quake.
